Overview: The Areca Palm, scientifically known as Dypsis lutescens, is a popular houseplant that adds a tropical feel to any space with its feathery, arching fronds. Also known as the Butterfly Palm or Golden Cane Palm, it is well-loved for its air-purifying qualities and relatively easy care requirements.

Key Features:

  • Feathery, arching fronds
  • Clumping growth habit
  • Air-purifying properties

Care Guide:

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. Direct sunlight may cause the fronds to yellow.

Watering: Water thoroughly, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.

Soil: Well-draining potting mix. Adding sand or perlite can improve drainage.

Temperature & Humidity: Thrives in temperatures between 65-75°F (18-24°C) and prefers moderate to high humidity. Keep away from cold drafts.

Fertilization: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-3 months during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in the winter.

Pruning: Remove yellow or dead fronds at the base. Regular pruning helps maintain its appearance and encourages new growth.

Pests & Diseases: Watch for spider mites, mealybugs, and scale. Treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Proper watering and good air circulation can prevent fungal issues.

Size & Growth:

  • Mature Height: 6-10 feet indoors
  • Mature Spread: 3-5 feet
  • Growth Rate: Medium to fast

Usage: Ideal for indoor decoration, providing a lush, tropical look to living rooms, offices, or patios. It can be used as a floor plant or in large containers.

Additional Information:

Origin: Native to Madagascar.

Toxicity: Non-toxic to pets and humans.

Fun fact: The Areca Palm is one of NASA's top air-purifying plants, known for its ability to remove toxins like formaldehyde, xylene, and toluene from the air.

Pot: The actual pot may vary from the product image.
